The WildFoot Cabins are a special place for anyone looking to unwind, reconnect with nature, and truly recharge. I’d recommend staying for at least 3 nights to fully enjoy the experience without feeling rushed.

What to Expect
The place can get quite cold, especially in the evenings, so pack some warm clothes. One or two warm jackets or pullovers should be enough, and it’s a good idea to have something waterproof in case you get caught in the rain.

The road is tarmacked for most of the journey, followed by about 6 km of murram road. If it rains, the soil can get quite slippery, so good tyres are helpful. That said, most cars should be able to make it to the cabins. Just be prepared for a bit of adventure if there’s a heavy downpour!

Things to Do
There’s plenty to keep you occupied, although the real attraction is simply slowing down and enjoying nature in its rawest form. However if sitting still and reconnecting with yourself is not your thing you can:

1. Hike through the Mount Kenya Forest
2. Go bird watching
3. Take a game drive
4. Explore the Mau Mau caves
5. Soak in the jacuzzi under the stars or sun
6. Catch up on your favourite Netflix series
7. Take a swim in the river
8. Go cycling — bring your own bikes
9. Go for a morning or afternoon jog
10. Warm yourself by the fire pit

What to Pack
If you plan to hike, bring proper hiking shoes (grip) and suitable clothing such as cargo pants. Some parts of the forest can be quite thick and prickly, so appropriate hiking gear is important.

The Mau Mau caves in particular can be an adventure — in some sections, you’ll need to crawl on your knees, so dress accordingly.

If you’re planning to walk or jog, bring shoes that can handle a murram road. It’s also a good idea to carry a small bag with water and some light snacks.

Food
The cabins are self-catering, so you can bring your own food and cook. However, if your goal is to completely relax and switch off, I’d recommend paying for the chef — it makes the experience much easier and, in my view, is quite cost-effective.

There are plenty of vegetables available at the farm if you want to prepare your own meals, and you can also arrange to have a chicken slaughtered for you.

One thing to keep in mind: decent shops are quite far away, so come prepared with most of what you’ll need.

Overall
The WildFoot Cabins are ideal for a quiet escape into nature. Come prepared for cool weather, a little adventure getting there, and limited access to shops — and you’ll be able to settle in, slow down, and enjoy the peace and beauty of the place.

I had such a pleasant experience. I took the O-frame studio and everything was spectacular. It was clean, and well maintained. The kitchen had everything I needed, the bathroom was spacious and really cool. I loved that the bed was comfortable and big.
